How Acadia Evergreen Retreat Came to Be
The Beginning
We first found the property while searching for a place that could support the kind of travel we value most — less commercialized, more connected to nature, and close to the experiences that make Acadia unforgettable. Tucked among the evergreens and just minutes from the park, it immediately felt like the kind of place where adventure and quiet could naturally exist together.
What made us fall in love with Acadia wasn’t a single attraction — it was watching our family experience it together. From our 4-year-old climbing rocks for the first time to our older kids bouldering along the coastline and hiking nearby trails, we realized this kind of trip brought out something different in all of us.
We redesigned the home to reflect the way we personally travel — balancing adventure with restoration and creating spaces that feel just as meaningful for families as they do for couples. We added a sauna, game room, fire pit, record player, and thoughtful gathering spaces designed for slow mornings, shared meals, and evenings spent reconnecting after a day outdoors.
We’ve never been the kind of family drawn to overly scheduled vacations that feel more exhausting than restorative. We believe the best trips happen when there’s space to explore, slow down, and watch the people you love experience something new for the very first time — and we hope guests leave Acadia Evergreen feeling exactly that.
The Adkins Family
As a family, we’ve always been drawn to experiences that feel meaningful rather than overly scheduled. While many vacations revolve around packed itineraries and constant entertainment, we’ve found ourselves most connected during slower days spent outdoors: hiking new trails, exploring coastal towns, and watching our kids experience something for the very first time.
Acadia quickly became one of those places for us. Whether visiting as a family with our three children or escaping for a quieter couples trip, we realized the rhythm here felt different from everyday life in the best possible way. Mornings started slower, conversations lasted longer, and the distractions that normally fill our schedules seemed to disappear naturally. Plus, it didn’t hurt that Acadia National Park was recognized as one of the most family-friendly national parks in the country!
Some of our favorite memories here are surprisingly simple.
As a healthcare professional, Stacie understands how easy it is for life to become consumed by schedules, responsibilities, and constant motion. Acadia Evergreen was created as a place to step outside of that rhythm - to reconnect with nature, with the people you love most, and with the kind of experiences that stay with you long after the trip ends.
Watching our youngest climb rocks along the shoreline for the first time. Seeing our older kids race ahead on the trails or spend hours exploring tidepools. Ending long hiking days with ice cream in Bar Harbor, evenings around the fire pit, or quiet walks near the water before heading home for the night.
What we love most about Acadia is that it invites every pace of adventure. Some days are filled with sunrise hikes and biking carriage roads. Other days are slower…coffee on the deck, reading in the hammock, or lingering over dinner while planning tomorrow’s adventure. We designed Acadia Evergreen Retreat to support both.
When we first began dreaming about this retreat, we considered naming it “Evermore” — inspired by the Taylor Swift song and the feeling of wanting just a little more time in places you love. But after experiencing Acadia for ourselves, the evergreens became part of the memory: the scent along the trails, the quiet stillness among the trees, and the feeling of being grounded in nature.
“Acadia Evergreen” ultimately felt like the perfect reflection of the experience we hoped to create here.
What’s Important To Us
Experience over Consumption
Here, the best memories are made outdoors — hiking Acadia’s trails, exploring harbor towns, biking carriage roads, and ending the day gathered around the fire pit instead of rushing from one distraction to the next.
Presence
The experience here invites you to slow down and notice more - fresh ocean air, the scent of evergreens, waves against the rocky coastline, and quiet mornings where your coffee is still hot before the day begins.
Lasting Traditions
What begins as a bucket list trip often becomes something guests return to year after year. From sunrise hikes and lobster dinners to evenings around the fire pit, the experiences here naturally become traditions worth repeating.
